I want to highlight my dark brown hair but worried it'l go orange?

Hi,

I have long thick dark brown hair, and i've always wanted to go a little lighter and brighter, but i'm worried that if i ask for caramel coloured highlights (like a light brown or atleast lighter than my own brown) that because they are lightening my hair from a darker colour that it will go a coppery colour or bright orange? I'm not wanting pure blonde highlights, more like the kind that beyonce and eva longaria have - like a beige coffee colour. I'm also going on holiday on the 13th of september to florida so im worried that the highlights may be ruined by going in the pool with chlorine? Will it fade or change the colour even if it's not a light/blonde colour?

I don't want to wait until october! thanks for any hellp, i shall award the best answer with 'best answer' vote I want to highlight my dark brown hair but worried it'l go orange?
hiya

i think that look is great its not hard to achieve your local colour specialist will be able to do it for you no problem talk to them about the colours you want and make sure you get it! dont be afraid to say no to any ideas they might try to give you unless you like it off course and make sure your happy before you leave the salon!

as for going away i would probabily do it when you come back as the sun will make them lighter and it has been known to change colour with chlorine... mine had a green tinge to it when i came back off mine lol!I want to highlight my dark brown hair but worried it'l go orange?
Don't worry they will most likely bleach your hair first, and do a toner so that it wont result in orange hair.

But tell them you want a toner because sometimes Salons don't do that.

I'm pretty sure your hair will be okay.

yes your hair will fade from going in the pool, but it wont ruin your highlights. Highlights fade from just about everything.

Ha ha why would you have to wait till October?!

Best wishes haha.
If you go to a decent salon where you have seen the work they've done, they will know exactly what to do to get it right. Chlorine though... mmm, I'm under the impression that its only for the first few weeks its a problem and after that you should be fine... put it this way, my highlights haven't changed colour and I swim every week. It's really only if you do them yourself you could be in trouble I reckon.
