Does hair get lighter everytime you get highlights?

So i just got highlights in august. I think they look great! i have medium/light brown hair and now with highlights, i was wondering does hair get lighter everytime you re-highlight. Because im getting more highlights around christmas time for like a gift. Will my hair be lighter than it is now?

Yes. I had dark brown hair and I've gotten three highlights over time, and it got very light. It almost went entirely blond. I dyed it darker and now it looks better.
