I have medium brown hair with caramel highlights, and I'm planning to bleach it and use a medium blonde toner

I have naturally black hair and want to frost/highlight only certain parts myself?
My hair is naturally black and I want to frost/highlight certain parts of only the front of my hair blonde. I had my hair permanently straightened in October of last year as well so I was wondering if that was a long enough rest period for my hair. Also will it turn out orange looking? I'd rather do it myself. I did something similar to this twice at different salons (they were high end too) before and it never turns out how I like so I ended up dying it back. I would probably wait two days to fix it. If the color of your highlights are too harsh dye your hair a color that works with your skin tone.Buy a standard box dye at a drugstore. Mix up the dye and have a friend help you apply your new hair color or do it yourself. Before you dye your hair put some vaseline or lotion on your skin and hair line so it won't stain your skin and make sure that your head is completely covered. Also, if your hair is thick or long make sure you buy two boxes of hair dye because one might not be enough. After you dye your hair to your desired shade you can maybe try one of those at home highlighting kits with the cap and do it yourself or have a trusted friend help you. If you want all over highlights try the L'orel frosting kit or the chunking kit and alternate each hole until your hair is covered both kits tell you to leave it in for an hour, but if you don't want intense highlights on dark brown to moderate brown hair leave it in 20-40 minutes instead because they are bleaching kits they might give you the same result as you have now. I know from expirence that this works I used to have fuschia highlights! I hope this helps!!!!

Ok so i dyed my hair black it looks good BUT some of the dye ain't covered all of the strands of hair if ya get me?.. like i got a clump of hair but only the middle is balck the root and bottom is still brown. If u plan on highlighting it urself be aware because u dyed it black it has to go through about 10 stages of color to get to where u want it..And the possibility that it does not turn out how u want it is very great. most likely it will get stuck in a orange stage that u can not break out of. even if u went to a salon they could not promise u blonde and would most likely have to put on a toner ( a color to put over the orange to get rid of it). thats why salons do them both at same time.. so they dont have to try to break through that black. since color does not lift color anyways u would have to use hair bleach ... Ur opening a can of worms that u dont want open.. trust that.. U will regret it and b wasting ur money because u would be buying a new box of black dye to put back over the mess.I just dyed my hair and i want to highlight it today??

The problem is the stands that are black will highlight to a different color than the areas that start out brown. I would go back and reapply to the spots that you missed first if you want an even result from the highlight.

Look like the pink are all extensions. I have black hair with purple streaks and The purple i have are all extensions. You can get the clip in ones and just clip pink extensions in all over. Get them at any beauty supply store. Or you can go to someone who does Glue in extensions. Those are the ones I have. Mine have lasted three weeks so far and havent fallen out. So not sure if your blonde already, Just have someone Blonde your hair and get clip in pink extensions. I think thats the easiest and least expensive

Has anyone dyed over their blonde highlights and made their hair dark brown?
So i have medium brown as a base color (not my natural color) and blonde all over hi lights but its my natural hair color which is dark brown is already like 2 inches grown out. can i just dye over the color and highlights i dont really want to go to the beauty salon, my stylist over charges. Go to a beauty supply store and get a semi permanent color. It has no chemicals in it so it won't harm your hair. When you find the color you like....go 1 shade lighter because it always comes out darker than the color shown. Good Luck

I dyed my hair black the other day. Along with the hair dye I bought fuscia highlights. Now, I've had my hair this way before but I hadn't done the highlights on my own then. I've highlighted my own hair before but never from black. I'd prefer not to use bleach and the box actually says that the highlights are specifically for ';dark hair';. Sorry but you will have to bleach it.Color doesnt lift color.The highlights you bought that are for dark hair mean-naturally dark not dyed hair.If you only put the black in a few days ago,you can try useing a color stripper (same as a bleach just a little less harsh) that will take off the black to a orange/yellow.If you use a color stripper you have to use dye to cover those spots right after.So this is perfect for you.Now if in a few years or months you want to stop dyeing your hair black and dont want to wait for it to grow do not try to get the black out yourself.The best way I can reccomend to get it out is going to an Aveda school salon and letting them use their bleach.I recently had mine bleached out by a student there useing only aveda products I had over 10 years of black walmart/drugstore box color on my hair this is btw the hardest color to remove.She got it out in 2 sittings and my hair still looks healthy.Good luck!
EDIT:I forgot to mention above-The reason I say to go to an avdea salon is because of the product and the price.One the products are amazing,the bleach is made with alot of natural products (all of their products are) and is less harmful to your hair.The shampoos and conditionrs that they will use are great for bleached hair and colored hair.Leaving is soft and healthy.Two-the price-When you go to a salon that is made of up professionals that are out of school espically if its an upscale place you will have to pay around 200 dollars (possibly more) per visit,if you have to have 2 visits for the process that adds up to more then what I want to pay just to change my hair color.While at an aveda school salon you have a student working on you that is almost out of school and has been okayed to work on the floor (in the salon) with a teachers guidence ( they are trained professonals and hair stylests themselves).So since its a student doing the work your only going to pay around 50 bucks for both visits ( 50 dollars all together).So check out the aveda website so if you deside to change it back you have a plan of action.Again good luck!

That color that is supposed to be ';especially for dark hair'; is a waste of money and does not work at all. I bleached my own hair, but I strongly recommend going to a salon if you can afford it.
i had a similar problem.. my hair wasnt black.. but dark brown and i wanted a few pink highlights....so here's what i did.. i went to sally's beauty supply.. or any beauty supply place and bought a pack of blonde hair extensions.. i got the short kind for about $10.. i also got the hair extension clips and cut the hair in about 1 inch strips and sewed the extensions onto the clips.. the clips have little holes so it is verrry easy to do.... then after i was done with the sewing.. u simpy dye the little extension pieces whatever color you like.. u can make as many or as little as you want and reuse them as many times as you want and dont have to bleach your hair. you can also sew a bigger piece of hair to two or three clips so make a more dramatic appearance. when you apply them just lift your hair, clip the extensions at the root and let your hair down. here is a link of my friend wearing one of the extensions i made.... http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a51/Hllywdbabe7/camera025-1.jpg

Get a kit that is especially for darker dyed hair. You may only be able to lighten it a few shades, which is actually ideal since lightening it too much can cause damage. You won't want to go with bleach blonde highlights, that's for sure. Go with a dark blonde or light brown if you're hair is really dark. If you want a more natural look, go with darker highlights. I think Loreal or Clairol makes the kit you want, but I'm not entirely sure. It comes in an orange and white cubed box (not rectangular like most hair dye boxes). Most department stores have it though. Make sure you don't choose a color of highlights for hair lighter than you currently have (most boxes will tell you the color range their highlights are for) or your highlights will turn out brassy. Wash your hair 24 hours before, its not good to have washed hair directly before dieing it because your hair pores are more open after washing it. And yes, you can wash it after the highlights, the people at the salon will wash it after to get the bleach out anyway. But rinse your hair with cool water.

If you're only going to cover the roots, you need a color that's blond to match the rest of your hair. If you are going to go with the dark blond or the light brown, then color all your hair that color. It will still be slightly darker at the roots, but at least the change will be subtle.

Use a very good conditioner for a week to smooth out you hair and try again in a week or two, but only when your hair feels softer. If you have bleached hair it will take longer. Over use of colour will dry you hair out too so not recommended to colour too many times in a short period. Best of luck.

Well,of course you can color it. if you don't want to get it done at a salon or but it out of one of the do-it yourself hair dye boxes, you shouls use sun in. Sun in does not cause any damage to your hair, and it actually helped prevent my hair from splint ends. You should spray sunin all over your hair when its damp, and then use a blowdryer or sit out in the sun. do this repeatedly and it will work quick, with no damage =] hope this helps

The good part about this ';at-home'; scenario is that you are going from lighter to darker. Usually, this is somewhat easier, but not always. You may spend a couple hours on your hair only to walk away from the mirror with extreme unevenness and a splotchy job. What to do? Go to a salon then for a COLOR CORRECTION.
So, what will happen if you decide to walk down the path you are on? Well, you would get brown all-over color and the old highlights would still show through and add dimension to the dark brown. It could be beautiful. However, the tone of the highlights is something to consider - it may not compliment the color of the brown and then look just ';OFF';. The other thing to consider is the color of the brown. Is it complimentary to your skin color? If it's not and it's too dark, you could look super washed out and pale - kind scary.
Suggestion - seek professional advice. Go to the best salon in your city and get a free consultation - they will give you the basics and/or any challenges that you are going to be up against. The other thing to think about as well is MAINTENANCE - how long do you want this look to last and how long will this look last looking great.

Why are foil highlights causing the surrounding dark brown hair to go lighter/redder? ?
I have dark brown hair and have recently gone 2 times to the hairdressers for foil light blonde highlights. However, both times i have noticed that the surronding hair near the roots is getting lighter as well. So when i go for retouching my roots, i am also getting the surrounding (new growth hair) going lighter/redder. Is this because the bleach leaks out during washing it out and it lightens the hair slightly?Why are foil highlights causing the surrounding dark brown hair to go lighter/redder? ?
its possible that leakage where they are packing too much product into the foil, or if it is only at the back her of her head then this means that the foils are taking a shorter time develop because the heat that is the hottest part of the head and heat speeds up the colour turning.

Ok.... I asked my doctor the same question..... he said YES! it is safe....
I asked because I am a cosmetologist, and didn't know if i needed to take all that time off because of my pregnancy.
He told me that bleach and lighter hair colors, are fine and unless you are consuming them (eating them) they are safe. Avoid breathing in the fumes directly of course.
He told me that the only real cause for concern, was the darker hair color, because they do have an ingredient in them that could cause some harm to the unborn baby..... it is a slight risk.....
He also told me that it was fine for me to continue doing hair, and getting my hair highlighted, he just advised me that if i was going darker. to keep the color off my scalp.
I wore gloves when doing hair... problem solved!
SO..... my advice to you! go with lighter highlights, and ask your stylist to pull it through a cap! that way it will never touch your scalp!
The fumes are not bad, the color will smell a little strong at first, but the smell goes away quickly.
I did hair and safely delivered 2 perfectly healthy little girls.... and keep in mind that I handled that stuff all day every day!
one note..... sometimes when you are pregnant the raging hormones in your body can cause your hair do do some strange things...... for example someone who regularly perms their hair, and has no problems.... may find that when pregnant her hair will not take the curl, and the perm doesn't work. same thing can happen with color......

No!,most defenetly not at 7 weeks old. The babay is still small and growing so the chemicals might be harmful to it.
There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with colouring your hair while you are preggers.
If you are worried, just do some hiliting with a cap, that way the dye won't touch your scalp.
You just have to be careful in your third trimester, because your hormones are changing, it could affect the colour, although it is unlikely.

Ok.... I asked my doctor the same question..... he said YES! it is safe....
I asked because I am a cosmetologist, and didn't know if i needed to take all that time off because of my pregnancy.
He told me that bleach and lighter hair colors, are fine and unless you are consuming them (eating them) they are safe. Avoid breathing in the fumes directly of course.
He told me that the only real cause for concern, was the darker hair color, because they do have an ingredient in them that could cause some harm to the unborn baby..... it is a slight risk.....
He also told me that it was fine for me to continue doing hair, and getting my hair highlighted, he just advised me that if i was going darker. to keep the color off my scalp.
I wore gloves when doing hair... problem solved!
SO..... my advice to you! go with lighter highlights, and ask your stylist to pull it through a cap! that way it will never touch your scalp!
The fumes are not bad, the color will smell a little strong at first, but the smell goes away quickly.
I did hair and safely delivered 2 perfectly healthy little girls.... and keep in mind that I handled that stuff all day every day!
one note..... sometimes when you are pregnant the raging hormones in your body can cause your hair do do some strange things...... for example someone who regularly perms their hair, and has no problems.... may find that when pregnant her hair will not take the curl, and the perm doesn't work. same thing can happen with color......
This type of thing doesn't always happen, I just wanted yout to be aware that it can!

No!,most defenetly not at 7 weeks old. The babay is still small and growing so the chemicals might be harmful to it.
There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with colouring your hair while you are preggers.
If you are worried, just do some hiliting with a cap, that way the dye won't touch your scalp.
You just have to be careful in your third trimester, because your hormones are changing, it could affect the colour, although it is unlikely.

depending on what kind of Highlights. if you're wanting a thick highlight (like chunks of lighter color) i would show her some pictures of it from a magazine or something like that. if you just want a smaller highlight i would say ';mom could i maybe to this to my hair for (next coming holiday, birthday, etc.)'; honestly i asked my mom if i could for easter and she said yes!
Convince her your natural hair needs more color.
Do extra work around the house, Help brother/sister with homework, Show her your responsible and deserve it.
Offer to pay.
Or if money is a problem don't go to a salon, get some at a drug store or Walmart or something.
It mostly depends how old you are.

I dyed my hair last night & its too dark can I highlight it 2night so it will lighten up? Will this hurt me?
There are 2 products available at salons that are excellent. The brands are Swartzcophf and Rusk. These work by reversing the oxidation process of dyes.
After the product is applied , it will remove all the dark dye. You will then have to have the stylist correct the blonde that will be underneath.
They're fairly gentle products. Ask your stylist to recommend a professional shampoo and conitioner for follow-up.
Don't try to remove the color any other way. You will end up with fried, orange hair.
*Color will not lift color. If you use an all over lighter shade, you'll get ';hot roots';. That's when your natural hair at the roots works as it should and the black stays black.I dyed my hair last night %26amp; its too dark can I highlight it 2night so it will lighten up? Will this hurt me?

I would leave it alone....you will totally damage it even if you go to a salon.....

If you are wearing a longer style of hair then you shouldn't make it look all perfect. If your hair comes below your ears then you should keep it sort of messy and surfer/skater like. If you want to have it look like something from GQ then you should cut it before you get highlights or you may just end up confusing girls with what sexual orientation you belong to :)
please don't do it, you'll just ruin you're hair. I really doubt that girls like boys with dyed hair, especially with highlights. I mean I wouldn't advise you to do it. But hey, in the end it's all up to you
